is looking for aOnline Parent Organizer
Description
Environmental Working Group is seeking 1-2 Online Parent Organizer(s) to work either part-time or full-time in either our Washington, D.C. or Oakland, CA office. This is a new position and a major responsibility of the Online Parent Organizer(s) is to help develop and implement our strategy for reaching targeted members of our online community.
The first major project he/she will develop is our Parents Outreach Initiative. The Online Parent Organizer will build relationships with parents online via blogs, social networking sites, listservs, message boards, and other avenues.
Responsibilities include:
* blog about parenting issues on www.Enviroblog.org and our new parenting blog
* serve as EWG online representative on parenting forums, blogs, listservs, and social network sites
* build relationships with our online community and respond to emails and phone calls about projects
* tap into existing online parents communities around health issues and build a presence there
* recommend new avenues and strategies for reaching our target audiences
* write targeted content and messaging, including website content, emails, and blog posts
* manage Parent Corps members who agree to reach out to parents in geographic or constituent communities
* other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
* project management experience
* demonstrable experience blogging and/or writing for an online audience
* ability to work independently and excellent time management skills
* creative, strategic thinker
* ability to quickly master new technology
* experience with and knowledge of social networking sites (like MySpace and Facebook), blogs, listservs, and message boards
* experience as a parent or working directly with parents a plus

EWG is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., with an office in Oakland, California. Our research topics include bodyburden (toxome.org), cosmetics safety and regulation (cosmeticsdatabase.com), pesticides in produce (foodnews.org), and oh so much more (ewg.org, enviroblog.org).
Our Toxics and Human Health program is popular with families, and this summer we'll start to build community online for environmentally-conscious parents, engage them around toxics reform, and provide them with solutions.
