Description

Barefoot Proximity has an immediate opening for a Managing Editor. The Managing Editor is tasked with the day-to-day editorial operation of a site. This person reports directly to the Editor-in-Chief and is responsible for the 90-day run calendar, assignment management and final story approval. This person works directly with the Editor-in-Chief to implement editorial plans, create special features in partnership with sponsors and direct editorial tone and voice.

Responsibilities:

* Edits for content, tone and voice
* Executes and maintains the 90-day run calendar, updating it weekly to reflect story availability
* Liaison to outside content vendors and freelancers, tracking assignments and marrying images and assets to written pieces
* Deadline management
* Writes regularly on a variety of topics related to the property
* May serve in public roles including: conference participation and outside media relations
* Directly responsible for daily publishing of articles, photos and videos and responsible for final story approval for style and correctness
* Serves as design liaison to ensure timely completion of assets – photos, ads, etc…
* Ushers stories through SEO and ensures timely delivery

Requirements:

* Candidates for the Managing Editor position will have a strong background in editorial content creation and management
* A degree in journalism is preferred, though communications or other related fields will be considered
* Must have 7-10 years professional writing experience, 5+ years editing experience and at least 3 years experience in editorial management
* Solid knowledge of AP Style is a must
* The ability to work within a team environment with those from other disciplines necessary to the success of an online outlet (search, project management, video, etc…) is a must
* Experience in managing an online content site is a plus, though not mandatory
* Experience working on multiple editorial projects simultaneously is mandatory
