TrenchMice
is looking for aCompany news, tips, and rumors blogger
Description
Do you like digging up information on companies, and are you looking for a little extra cash?
If so, then today’s your lucky day, because we're hiring freelancers to write about companies.
This position is different than the typical blogging gig, and we think it'll be more fun, too. Because TrenchMice isn't about product reviews, finances, market trends, etc... Instead, it's about office life inside companies. As our tag line says, we're about "Insight from the trenches – Get the inside opinion on managers and companies."
Responsibilities:
* Interview managers and employees of start-up and small companies, and publish the interviews on the site
* Find news, tips, and rumors about companies from different sources (e.g., from your colleagues, web surfing, something you overhear at a party, etc...), and publish them on the site
Requirements:
* An interest in writing about companies. (Well, duh!) We want to branch out beyond being a "tech" site, so we’re interested in contacts and/or experience in non-high-tech industries
* You should be web-savvy in searching for information. For example, if we give you someone's name at firm X, could you find their e-mail address in some far-off corner of the Internet?
* Familiarity with alternative search engines and directories, especially related to particular industries (e.g., health care) or types of content (e.g., blogs) is a plus
* Very good English writing skills
* Agreeing to abide by TrenchMice’s "Terms of Use" and "Membership Agreement" when you publish your scoops.
* No prior reporting experience necessary!
The cool things about being a TrenchMice stringer:
* If you’re looking to break into the reporting business, you’ll gain writing experience that employers look for
* You can do it in your spare time. On your lunch break. At a coffee shop. At home. In your pajamas…
* You can even do it while you’re working at another job
The compensation:
* $20 – $30 per published scoop, depending on length
* Cogito, Inc. stock options for multiple months of continuous stringing
* You can terminate the stringing contract at any time
We’ll help you get started with TrenchMice reporting guidelines, sample interview questions, and example posts. Payments for accepted scoops are net-30.
How to apply
Send your resume and two writing samples to stringer@trenchmice.com. If you don’t have prior reporting experience, then attach some writing samples from school.
