TrenchMice

is looking for a

Company news and rumors stringer

Category: Blog Networks

Description

TrenchMice is hiring freelancers to dig up news and rumors about companies.

We aren't a typical site that opines about new products, company financing deals, or technology or market trends. Instead, we're about what's going down in the office. I.e., what it's like to work for a company, and what it's like to work for particular managers. If you've ever listened to friends vent about their jobs, then you know the kind of information we're looking for.

Our tag lines say it all: "Insight from the trenches – Get the inside opinion on managers and companies," and, "Opinions, News and Rumors from Colleagues, Customers and Contractors."

Responsibilities:

* Find news and rumors about companies from different sources (e.g., your colleagues, friends, web surfing, or something you overhear at a party), and publish them on the site
* Interview individuals in start-up and small companies, and publish them on the site

Requirements:

* An interest in writing about companies. (Well, duh!)
* You should be web-savvy in searching for information. For example, if we give you someone's name at firm XYZ, could you find their e-mail address in some far-off corner of the Internet?
* Familiarity with alternative search engines and directories, especially related to particular industries (e.g., health care) or types of content (e.g., blogs) is a plus
* Very good English writing skills
* Agreeing to abide by our "Terms of Use" and "Membership Agreement" (available from the site)
* No prior reporting experience is necessary

The cool things about being a TrenchMice stringer:

* If you’re looking to break into the reporting business, you’ll gain writing experience that employers look for
* You can do it in your spare time. On your lunch break. At a coffee shop. At home. In your pajamas…
* You can even do it while you’re working at another job

The compensation:

* $20 – $30 per published scoop, depending on length
* Cogito, Inc. stock options for multiple months of continuous stringing

We’ll help you get started with TrenchMice reporting guidelines, sample interview questions, and example posts. Payments terms are net-30.

How to apply

Send your resume and two writing samples to stringer@trenchmice.com. If you don’t have prior reporting experience, then attach some writing samples from school.
